IPL, the Bath-based systems integrator specialising in digital innovation, has become one of the first UK organisations to achieve a new international certification for information security.
Gaining ISO/IEC 27001:2013 places IPL among the forerunners in transitioning from the 2005 edition of the international security standard to the latest version.
IPL has been building high-profile secure information systems throughout its 35-year history, including in-air refuelling control software, award-winning financial services systems and applications handling sensitive healthcare data.
It has held ISO/IEC 27001 certification since 2009, and with all certified organisations required to transition to the new 2013 version by October this year, IPL has become one of the first companies to make the step.
Business services director Lyn Penfold, pictured, who is in charge of business assurance, said: “We’re delighted to be leading the way in the information security field, and this certification gives our customers the peace of mind that we have the right processes in place to work with and build systems that handle sensitive information.”
IPL business Assurance specialist Jane O’Hara added: “With people being asked to share more and more personal information with organisations, it’s essential the systems that handle this information are designed and built to protect it, so that customers and the public are able to trust the companies they’re sharing information with.”
IPL employs more than 380 staff and works with blue-chip customers such as Nationwide, Flybe, FirstGroup, Lockheed Martin, BP and Total.
