Bath sunseekers in search of a relaxing cocktail while feeling sand between their toes need not travel far this summer following the opening of the city’s first beach bar.

The bar, pictured above, at the four-star County Hotel Bath on Pulteney Road features bright Balinese parasols, barbecue food choices and cocktails inspired by beaches around the world.

A separate meeting room also provides a creative space for workshops, private parties and celebrations.

The beach attraction, which has been designed to become a totally tropical social hub, also has a serious side with a central artwork piece, Abyss by Jacqueline Bond, based on plastic pollution in the ocean.

The 22-bedroom County Hotel was acquired in March by experienced hoteliers Ian and Christa Taylor through their new Kaleidoscope Collection.

Ian said: “Creating something that’s fun, eclectic and different for Bath is what we do, and we’re delighted with the initial transformation here at The County Hotel.

“Our new planting and sculptures to the front of the hotel – which include Summer the owl by artist Angus McBob [part of the Owls of Bath public art trail] – give passers-by a hint of the new look and feel, but we hope people will come and experience our new beach bar and social hub for themselves.”

When summer ends the pop-up attraction will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland.

The Kaleidoscope Collection also owns Bath’s No.15 Great Pulteney boutique hotel.
