Bath brand and design consultancy Mytton Williams’ work with city venue The Porter has earned it a Media Innovation Award.
Mytton Williams’ branding for the The Porter, which occupies a four-storey Georgian townhouse in George Street which has been converted into a stylish place to eat, drink, work and play, helped explain its owner’s ambition to make it different on every level with a bar, lounge, meeting rooms and restaurant.
The identity reflects the different floors and feeds through to the interiors, signage, menus, website and advertising.
Giles Thomas, owner of The Porter, said “Mytton Williams created the perfect brand solution which, from day one, has driven sales. I am seriously impressed with the brand; it’s everything I wanted.”
Mytton Williams creative director Bob Mytton said: “As with any identity, but particularly that for a venue, quick communication of the tone of the place is important.
“With the Porter however, they also needed to communicate its multiple functions. “The idea was to use the traditional Georgian house, with its multiple levels, to create a home from home with the multiple functions that implies.”
The Media Innovation Awards celebrates innovative and creative work by companies in the South West. It is the fourth year in a row Mytton Williams have taken home a trophy.
The consultancy was founded in 1996 by Bob Mytton and Sophie Williamsa and has worked with a wide range of national and international clients from business, industry, the arts and public sector, including Bath Spa University, Clarks, Environment Agency, National Trust, Waitrose and Thermae Bath Spa.
In July it launched JazzTypes at The Porter, an exhibition of Bob Mytton’s jazz-inspired posters in the venue’s basement bar and jazz club, pictured.
As a jazz lover, Bob embarked on an experiment to fire up his imagination and explore creativity – creating 100 posters over 100 days of the top 100 jazz musicians – documenting his thinking process and what he learnt about being creative along the way.
