Regional accountancy firm Milsted Langdon, which has an office in Bath, has become the latest business to support the Menopause Workplace Pledge.
The move follows latest statistics showing that almost 900,000 women in the UK quit their jobs due to the menopause.
Milsted Langdon said that, while it was already incredibly supportive of employees experiencing the menopause, it wanted to make a difference by signing the pledge.
This confirms the firm is committed to:
- Recognising the menopause can be a challenging experience within the workplace and women need support
- Talking openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause
- Actively supporting and informing its employees affected by the menopause.
Milsted Langdon people partner Rachel Hotham, pictured, said it was important that the firm recognised the needs of all of its team and supported them through the challenges of life.
“The menopause can be an exceedingly tough time for some people and is something that has often been overlooked in the past by employers,” she said.
“Although we have helped, and continue to assist, our employees undergoing this change, we wanted to go one step further and make a strong, signed commitment to support our people. We are proud to be a part of this national pledge.”
Milsted Langdon, which employs 22 partners and around 230 staff, said it hoped by educating and assisting its staff they would be confident to help one another and thrive within their careers.
It also hopes other businesses will follow its lead and sign the pledge, as taking a proactive approach to the menopause had been proven to increase staff retention, reduce recruitment costs, improve productivity, happiness and wellbeing.
Milsted Langdon chair Tim Close added: “Our talented staff are one of our greatest resources and so we want them to know that we are here and ready to assist them through every stage of their career and personal life.
“This is an area where lots of businesses could take small steps to improve their approach, as there are clear benefits from doing so for employees and companies as a whole.” Other businesses to have signed the pledge include Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Channel 4, Bupa and BMW Group.
Milsted Langdon also has offices in Bristol, Taunton, Yeovil and London.
