Bath legal and financial planning firm Mogers Drewett has launched a campaign to help struggling families during the school holidays by supporting local foodbanks.
The firm is accepting donations of long-life food items, cleaning products and toiletries at it office in the city along with its bases in Sherborne and Wells.
The much-needed donations will go to foodbanks local to the offices following a massive increase in demand for help.
Mogers Drewett announced in January that it planned to build longer-term relationship with three foodbanks throughout 2023 after staff raised £1,000 for each of them in the run-up to Christmas.
Bath Foodbank manager Grainne Moher said: “We are so grateful for the support of Mogers Drewett’s staff and clients.
“Even though the assistance for families who receive free school meals will continue in our area this summer we also support many people who will not be eligible for this.
“The donations to this summer collection of food and household items for Bath Foodbank will provide much needed help to individuals and families in our local community.”
She said all donations were welcome. The foodbank – one of Bath charity Genesis Trust’s projects in the city – now has an app called Bank the Food that can help highlight what is most needed.
Well’s foodbank manager Sue Marland, who is also senior pastor at the Vineyard Church, said many of its clients had young children and relied on free school meals.
“The school holidays put further pressure on budgets that are impossible to balance, and we are preparing for a spike in demand from families this August,” she added.
“We are asking for donations of child-friendly, long-life products and toiletries such as children’s toothbrushes and toothpaste, tinned tuna, tinned meals, healthy snacks and squash.
“Although our clients are referred to us by agencies such as the Jobcentre, we receive no government funding to support our work and depend on donations and occasional grants to fund our vital work.”
Mogers Drewett managing partner Sean McDonough, pictured, said: “Our local foodbanks do such fantastic work to help struggling families, particularly at this time of year. So we wanted to do our bit to support them and the local communities they serve.
“We are asking people to pop into one of our offices and donate whatever they can spare to help local people in crisis this summer.”
Mogers Drewett employs nearly 100 people across its three offices, providing a full range of legal services for businesses and individuals.
