Raffling a day off work, dress-down days and a bake-off style cake sale helped staff at Bath law firm Mowbray Woodwards raise £3,200 for local charity Mentoring Plus.
Mowbray Woodwards, a member of the Bath Percent Club - which aims to encourage charitable giving among local businesses - was introduced to the charity at one of its events.
Mentoring Plus supports young people aged 7-21 struggling with education, family, poverty or isolation by matching them with trained volunteer mentors.
As well as the cake sale, dress-down days and day-off raffle, a team from Mowbray Woodwards also ran the Bath Half Marathon, raising individual sponsorship which was matched by the firm’s partners.
Mowbray Woodwards managing partner Tracey Smith said she was delighted with the result.
“We have all been so inspired by the work of Mentoring Plus,” she said. “Fundraising for such a fantastic cause has really brought our team together and we have all worked hard to raise money in different ways.”
Mentoring Plus director Jamie Luck said: “This is a really inspirational amount raised and we’re thrilled to learn that the staff from Mowbray Woodwards found supporting Mentoring Plus such a positive experience. This will make such a difference to us as it covers the cost of training and supporting two mentor/mentee pairs for an entire year.”
Mentoring Plus provides a planned programme of skills-building activities alongside a core mentoring service. Mentees are helped into work or education, and supported to cope with difficulties and make positive choices. They gain skills, confidence and positive aspirations for the future. www.mentoringplus.net
