Two directors from the Bath area have been recognised for their inspiring leadership in a major national award scheme.
Brady George, managing director of Keynsham-based facilities management company Almeda, and Paul Bennett, executive chairman of Bath-based commercial energy efficiency consultancy BSSEC, were among the winners at the coveted Institute of Directors 2016 Director of the Year awards.
Brady, pictured right, who took over as Almeda managing director aged just 29, earned the Leadership in Corporate Responsibility title at the awards while Paul, pictured below, was named the best performing new IoD chartered director.
Also shortlisted in the awards was Simon Barbato, founder of Bath-based brand, digital and marketing agency Mr B & Friends, who won the South West Director of the Year title at the regional IoD awards.
Brady saw off stiff competition from six inspiring directors from every region in the UK to claim the corporate responsibility title. The category was open to directors who were able to demonstrate that, through their direct actions and leadership, their business has made a positive impact on the local community, wider society and the environment.
Brady took the helm of his family-run firm in August 2015, taking over from his father Gary. He was previously operations director after joining the company at the age of 23 and working in every role in the business.
The judges were excited by Brady’s business plan for Almeda and how he has taken the firm into new territory by developing and launching its catering division, food with passion.
Brady said: “Words can’t describe what it means to win this national award. On a daily basis, I am in awe of the whole Almeda family who work tirelessly to be a force for good, o it was an incredibly proud moment to accept this on their behalf.
“I’m inspired by all businesses that want and are creating positive difference in the world – this award is for all of them.”
Paul Bennett founded BSSEC (Building Services Sustainability & Environmental Consultancy) in 2005.
As a chartered engineer, he recognised the value that good energy efficiency advice could deliver and set up the firm to help businesses identify and implement energy saving measures.
IoD South West chairman Nick Sturge said: “In these times of economic upheaval – locally and globally – strong, entrepreneurial, resilient and informed leadership is essential to any organisation.
“I am very proud of all our winners and shortlisted candidates who have proved that this region has a real breadth and depth of talent, enterprise and leadership to rival the very best in the nation.”
The IoD Director Awards seek to highlight and celebrate outstanding business people across the country, bringing the enterprise community together and focusing UK-wide attention on the regions. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel.
