Experienced tourism professional Nick Brooks-Sykes has been appointed as chief executive of Bath Tourism Plus, the destination marketing organisation for the city and the surrounding area.
He brings a wealth of tourism and marketing experience to the position, having previously worked as director of tourism at the North West Development Agency and head of marketing services at the North West Tourist Board.
He has also helped shape the priorities and activities of the national tourism body, VisitEngland. Nick comes from a family of hoteliers and has a Masters in Tourism from Strathclyde University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Nick arrives at Bath Tourism Plus at a busy time with the refurbishment of the Tourist Information Centre beginning this January which will transform the information office in Abbey Chambers into a stylish, state-of-the-art visitor centre.
There will also be many opportunities to capitalise on major events in 2012 such as the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee.
Nick Brooks-Sykes said: “I look forward to working with and supporting our public and private sector partners to grow the visitor economy of this unique destination.”
Bath Tourism Plus chair Mary Lynch added: “Bath has been recognised as a premier tourism destination by Visit England and will benefit from additional national resources in 2012 to promote the area. It is therefore excellent news that we have been able to attract a first-class chief executive to lead the organisation and we are all looking forward to working with him.”
