Homewood hotel and spa has taken on Fernando Moreira as deputy general manager, its latest senior appointment as work is due to start soon on a £3m expansion.

Fernando, pictured, brings more than 20 years’ experience to the role at the 31-bedroom luxury hotel in Freshford.

He started his career in Madeira as an assistant restaurant and bar manager at Charming Hotels & Resorts before moving to England to take on the position of assistant restaurant manager at Harbour Heights Hotel in Poole.

He continued to gain experience in the hospitality industry, with a particular focus on food and beverage, including spells at The Manor House in Castle Combe, The Compleat Angler in Marlow and The Castle Hotel in Taunton.

Homewood was acquired by Bath boutique hotel group the Kaleidoscope Collection in 2018 which added a 10-bedroom lodge a year later.

The latest expansion, pictured, will include six new luxury guest suites, each with their own private terraces and a small meeting and events space.

There will also be extensions to the existing spa, including a new entrance foyer, an additional double treatment room, fitness suite and post-treatment relaxation space.

As part of the masterplan, new landscape planting and additional parking will be also provided.

Fernando said: “My career highlights include achieving a Michelin Star three years running and being a finalist for Wine List of the Year multiple times.

“Now, I’ve got my sights set on something new and exciting and that’s where Homewood, part of the Kaleidoscope Collection, comes in.

“I was really drawn to its vibe and eclectic style, plus it’s been named one of the Top 200 hotels in the UK, which is very impressive.

“Homewood is amazingly creative, and I am excited to bring my passion for hospitality to this role at a time of exciting development for the hotel.”

Homewood general manager Ed Fitzpatrick added: “2023 is a crucial year for Homewood as we look to solidify our standing as one of the UK’s leading boutique hotels.

“I am delighted to bring an operator of Fernando’s pedigree to the team and look forward to supporting him to embellish the legacy left by Rui De Carvalho.”

The Kaleidoscope Collection also owns the 31-bedroom The Bird, Bath, on Bath’s Pulteney Road, Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa, a 19th-century, 32-bedroom country house hotel near Warminster, and No.7 Upper Lansdown, a luxurious two-bedroom house, close to Bath city centre.
