Barclays has officially launched its new-look Bath city centre branch with MP Don Foster cutting the ribbon and performance artists, drummers and dancers adding to the party atmosphere.
Barclays spent around £1m on the branch, which employs 30 staff and is its latest flagship outlet to be launched in the South West. New-look branches have already opened in Swindon, Bristol Broadmead and Plymouth.
The branch in Southgate Street brings together staff from Manvers St and Milsom St under one roof. Barclays also has a branch at Combe Down on the outskirts of the city and a student branch at Bath University.
The branch has free wi-fi, open counters and automated tellers while the second floor offers a personal banker, mortgage advisor and business banker service along with a premier suite.
Branch manager Adam Rowland said: “It was a great day and hundreds of people came along to enjoy the carnival atmosphere and look around the new branch. These premises will allow us to deliver the great service our customers deserve and the investment in the branch confirms our commitment to serving customers in Bath’s vibrant city centre.”
Mr Foster added: “I’m delighted that Barclays has invested in Bath by providing a more open and user-friendly environment which is important for customers and their people. I hope it will spark further investment in the city and encourage more customers to shop locally.”
Customers at the opening got the chance to have their photograph taken with the Barclays Premier League trophy during the day-long activities.
