An industry expert with more than 35 years’ experience in the housebuilding industry has joined Barratt David Wilson Homes South West as managing director.
Ralph Hawkins’ appointment brings him back to the Barratt Developments group, where he previously spent nine years as development director at Barratt Bristol.
Ralph, pictured, then went on to spend more than seven years at rival Taylor Wimpey Bristol, five of them as managing director, before joining Crest Nicholson South West in the same role.
He said he was excited to take on the role of divisional managing director at Barratt David Wilson Homes at a group and divisional level as it was behind some of the industry’s most forward-thinking developments.
The South West division, which has developments across South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset, has launched one of the group’s most technologically innovative sites at Delamare Park near Frome, where its 82-home scheme has made huge strides in using air source heat pumps, which he said had received positive customer feedback.
“While rising energy costs are a concern, I’m keen to roll out this green technology on more sites across the region,” he said.
“I’ve also been impressed with the division’s commitment to corporate and social responsibility and the amount of volunteering that goes on throughout the business.
“It’s the most I’ve seen in any company I’ve worked for, and as a volunteer myself, it’s something that resonates.
“I know how worthwhile charity work is and how important it is to give back to the communities where we build.”
He said while there was no denying how challenging the market currently was, the South West was well positioned to cope and the business would remain focused on helping those who needed to move.
“There’s a reason why we’re the UK’s most recommended housebuilder for the 13th year in a row and I’m committed to continuing to deliver excellent quality and service for our customers,” he added.
Barratt Developments West region managing director Russell Glimstead added: “Ralph brings with him vast land and residential development experience. I know he’ll make a tangible difference to the communities where we build and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the helm of our South West division.”
