International healthcare firm Alliance Pharma has strengthened its board by appointing Martin Sutherland as an independent non-executive director and promoting Richard Jones to senior independent director.
Chippenham-headquartered Alliance, whose products range from stomach ulcer treatments to anti-dandruff shampoo, said the move supported its growth strategy as it recovers from Covid-induced supply chain disruption and global inflation.
Martin, pictured below, who has joined the board with immediate effect, is a senior executive with more than 30 years’ experience in global businesses.
Alliance said he brought with him a proven track record of delivering growth through new product innovation, market diversification and international expansion.
He is also a non-executive director at FTSE-listed Forterra, a leading UK manufacturer of essential clay and concrete building products and Reliance acsn, a privately held specialist cyber security business.
Between 2014 and 2019 he was CEO of specialist print group De La Rue and previously held various roles at consulting firm Detica, becoming managing director in 2008 on its acquisition by defence giant BAE Systems.
Alliance, which holds marketing rights to around 80 consumer healthcare brands, said it believed Martin's experience would bring “a new perspective to complement the strong consumer healthcare knowledge already present on the board”.
Richard Jones, pictured below, a non-executive director on the Alliance board since 2019 and chair of its audit & risk committee, has become its first senior independent director.
Richard is CFO of Medica Group, the UK’s leading teleradiology provider.
Alliance chair David Cook said: “I am delighted to welcome Martin Sutherland to the board and look forward to his contribution to support the delivery of our growth strategy.
“Martin will bring significant additional expertise from his experience as a company director and in senior executive leadership roles.
“The board will also benefit from his 30 years’ experience in managing global businesses and delivering growth.
“I am also pleased to appoint Richard Jones as our first senior independent director.
“Richard will help support and expand our stakeholder engagement programme, building on his extensive experience in capital markets and leveraging his strong networks with shareholders.”
Alliance Pharma employs around 250 people across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
Last month it appointed Jeyan Heper, who previously led Chinese-owned condom maker Lifestyles Healthcare, as chief operating officer and also said it would take on an interim CEO while it awaits the return of current CEO Peter Butterfield, who announced in November that he is taking time away from the business for personal reasons.
