Bath’s Phenomenal Women series of talks in which some of the country’s most inspiring women share their experiences returns next week.
Inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem Phenomenal Woman, the city’s Gainsborough Hotel launched the bi-monthly series in 2018 to champion women from all backgrounds who have achieved recognition and made a significant impact in their field.
Speakers have ranged from Severn Trent Water CEO Liv Garfield, best-selling author, critic, broadcaster and stand-up comedian Viv Groskop and Eva Hamilton MBE, CEO & founder or Key4Life, the organisation turning around the lives of some of the most disaffected young people in Britain.
The next Phenomenal Women guest speaker will be Prof Lorraine Whitmarsh MBE on Thursday, 17 October.
Based in the University of Bath’s Department of Psychology, Prof Whitmarsh is an environmental psychologist, specialising in perceptions and behaviour in relation to climate change, energy and transport.
She is the director of the ESRC-funded UK Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) and regularly advises governmental and other organisations on low-carbon behaviour change and climate change communication.
Her research projects have included studies of meat consumption, energy efficiency behaviours, waste reduction and carrier bag reuse, perceptions of smart technologies and electric vehicles, low-carbon lifestyles, and responses to climate change.
She was one of the expert leads for Climate Assembly UK and lead author for IPCC’s Working Group II Sixth Assessment Report.
November’s Phenomenal Women speaker will be Anisha Joshi, the multidisciplinary osteopath and clinical director. A winner of the Principal Osteopath of the Year Award, she counts household-name sports and television stars among her clients.
Anisha’s expert comments have been featured in The Telegraph and Vanity Fair and she is the resident on-screen osteopath for ITV’s This Morning.
Tickets for both events are £15 and include prosecco and canapes. For more details and to book click here
The five-star, 99-room Gainsborough Bath Spa opened eight years ago in two historic buildings with distinguished Georgian and Victorian facades in the heart the city.
It was the first UK hotel to be opened by YTL Hotels, part of the giant Malaysian YTL conglomerate that also owns Bath-based Wessex Water.
