Women in Property, the influencing and networking organisation for the property and construction industry, has appointed Rachel Holmes as the new chair of its South West region.
Rachel, pictured, is a business development manager in the Bristol office of Colliers, joined Women in Property (WiP) in 2020 and has since hosted some of its largest events.
Last year’s vice-chair, she has also been involved in the whole range of the branch’s activities, including networking, seminars, mentoring and WiP’s National Student Awards.
Supporting Rachel for the coming 12 months will be new vice-chair Maddie Difazio-Wright, who is brand manager at Bristol construction firm MAKE Group.
Rachel takes over as chair from Toni Riddiford, an associate director and head of office and workplace at architects Stride Treglown.
WiP South West, which has nearly 270 members, is one of 14 branches and satellites across the UK, nearly 270 members.
Nationally, WiP uses its platform to influence the government, including through the the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women and Work, which is investigating issues spanning women returners and making the Industrial Strategy work for women to the Impact of Covid-19 on women in the workplace and the recruitment and retention of women in construction.
It also works to encourage girls and young women to consider a career in property and construction through school outreach projects and the National Student Awards.
Rachel said she was thrilled to take up the chair role for Women in Property South West.
“I am eager to lead the organisation as we continue to foster a culture of positive change and growth,” she added.
“Our vibrant committee will continue to empower and support women in the property and construction industry, creating a more inclusive and diverse community.
“I am excited for the journey ahead and the impact we will make together.”
Head of Colliers’ Bristol office, Jo Edwards, said the firm was passionate about changing the face of property and creating a more equitable environment for both the women already working in the sector as well as fresh talent considering real estate as a future career.
“Rachel is already highlighting the many career opportunities the sector has to offer and building a strong female network in the region,” she added.
“I have no doubt that in her role as chair for Women in Property South West she will continue to make a significant impact and inspire more people to consider a career in the sector, and make positive changes for those already working in property and construction.”
