One of the Bath area’s most unusual gyms is about to open for business. In a spectacular outdoor setting – and with none of the treadmills, sweaty smells and weary workouts – the Bath Skyline is set to take fitness training to a new frontier.
Acclaimed personal trainer Jennie Antell of outdoor workout firm EcoFitness has teamed up with the National Trust to offer a taste of an outdoor gym to people of all fitness levels. She will lead Nordic walks along six miles of footpaths and valleys rich in flowers and woodland.
Body conditioning classes will also be taking place set against the beautiful backdrop of Bath. The meadows of the Bath skyline merging with views of the Blackdown Hills will offer the perfect vantage point for gentle stretches. In addition the butterfly-rich limestone grassland slopes will provide a cardio workout with a difference, allowing participants to fill their lungs with fresh air while listening out for the skylark, occasionally heard warbling in late spring.
Skyline workouts will take place three times a week with the first starting on Tuesday April 30. Participants of all abilities can buy a £50 pass that entitles them to unlimited outdoor workouts for six weeks.
The meeting point for the 45-minute sessions is Smallcombe Vale in Bath on Tuesday and Sunday mornings or Thursday evening straight after work. An additional Nordic walking session will take place each Tuesday at 11am at an extra weekly cost of £6.
Participants must be aged 18 and over and will be required to fill out a health and fitness questionnaire. Sessions must be pre booked, as places are limited.
Outdoor workouts take place on Tuesdays (9:30 – 10:15am) Thursdays (6:00 – 6:45pm) and Sundays (9:30 – 10:15am). Unlimited sessions for six weeks for just £50 (pass valid from the date of purchase) Nordic Walking (Poles will be provided) is on Tuesdays at 11:00am £6 per session
