Bath has been voted the best destination for health tourism by the UK’s older generation, beating Spain and Cyprus to win gold at the annual 50+ Awards.

Bath Tourism Plus collected the award at a gala reception at London’s Olympia. The 50+ Awards, which are organised and presented by the 50+ Show and exhibition, showcase the best that life has to offer for those who are aged over 50. The awards are solely based on internet nominations and votes of those in this age group.

More than 6,500 people cast a total of 211,465 votes in 53 categories, which range from Best Airline (British Airways) and Best Housing Provider (McCarthy & Stone) to Best Mobile Phone (Nokia 700). With an average age of 64, the voters represented a total of 421,760 years of experience.

Bath Tourism Plus chief executive Nick Brooks Sykes said: “This award reconfirms that Bath holds greatest appeal for independently minded and traditionally orientated visitors, such as the 50-plus age group. Since Roman times, Bath has been identified as a place of pleasure and rejuvenation. By having the only natural thermal springs in the UK, Bath is the ultimate spa destination.”
