Regional accountancy firm MHA Monahans’ Bath office has received a flying visit from the two owls it is sponsoring in this summer’s Minerva’s Owls of Bath public sculpture trail.
MHA Monahans was among the first firms in the city to swoop to take part as a Gold sponsor of the trail, which takes place between the end of June and September.
The firm’s two sculptures landed at its office in Pierrepont Street ahead of their journey to their respective artists for painting.
Once completed in their final designs, they will go on display – one perched outside the Pierrepont Street office with the second heading to Frome, where the firm has another office.
They are among 100 owls – plus many smaller owlet sculptures – which will nest in public spaces across Bath and the surrounding area before being auctioned for charity.
MHA Monahans partners Martin Longmore, Laura Green and Dominic Bourquin were joined by one of their artists Chris Dawson to welcome the owls. Chris’s design The Ys (and the Where 4s) is based on a puzzle challenging people to find the 4s on the owl.
Martin said: “The Minerva’s Owls sculpture trail is an excellent way of raising money for a number of local charities and we’re very pleased to be a Gold sponsor for the event.
“Choosing which artists to work with was a difficult job as there were so many great ideas and designs and we’re looking forward to revealing our wise owls this summer. Being able to welcome the owls to their home now, right at the start of the process, was a real hoot and the start of a great few months for Bath.”
Minerva’s Owls of Bath 2018 is being brought to the city by the team behind the enormously popular King Bladud’s Pigs in 2008 – one of the UK’s first major sculpture trails of its kind – and the Lions of Bath two years later.
The 100 owl sculptures will be placed in and around the streets of Bath for three months to celebrate Bath’s Roman heritage.
All the large owls will be auctioned for charity in late October while the owlets will return to the schools and community groups that decorated them as a legacy of the event.
All the event profits will be donated to four local charities – 70% to the Royal United Hospital’s new Cancer Centre and 30% to Bath Young Carers, the Roman Baths Archway Project and the UK Little Owl Project, which is based in Bath.
MHA Monahans also has offices in Trowbridge, Chippenham, Melksham, Glastonbury, Swindon and Taunton. It employs 16 partners and 190 staff.
