Bath’s County Hotel is to get a £1m refurbishment as it looks to build on its new-found reputation as a haven for food lovers.

The 20-bedroom luxury hotel’s owner, entrepreneur Barry Hurley, brought Bath-born celebrity chef Martin Blunos, pictured, back to his home city earlier this year when it opened Blunos Fish Restaurant at the hotel, part of the Seasons Group.

The restaurant, the result of a £350,000 investment, has garnered excellent reviews and, according to Mr Hurley, is going from strength to strength.

Now he plans to invest a further £1m to refurbish the hotel in Pulteney Street, starting early next year. Barry and the team at Seasons Group are in discussion about the refurbishment plan and keen to put the work out to tender to local designers and associated trades.

Seasons Group general manager Ross Grieve said: “Our commitment to the city of Bath and its residents and tourist industry goes without saying. We are bringing significant investment funding to the area and Blunos Fish Restaurant at the County Hotel will play a large part in the bigger picture. Our collaboration with Martin Blunos and redevelopment of the hotel are an important part of that commitment.”
