Bath-based housing association and housebuilder Curo has named Young Lives vs Cancer as its charity of the year for 2024.
Young Lives vs Cancer, which was established in 2005, provides essential support services for children, young people and families affected by cancer across the UK.
It offers specialised support from diagnosis onwards, including providing dedicated social workers to address the needs of individuals and families.
Through advocacy and tailored assistance, it also ensures that those affected by cancer receive the care and support they require.
Each year Curo, one of the largest housing associations in the South West with a portfolio of 13,000 homes, invites its staff to suggest charities to support, with those shortlisted put to a vote.
Last year, the firm and its staff raised £11,000 for St Peter’s Hospice as its Charity of the Year.
Curo workers have already been coming up with inventive ways to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer, with ideas so far including a sponsored ‘sleep out’, a 10,000-steps-a-day challenge and a charity gig with bands featuring Curo employees.
Curo chief executive Victor da Cunha said the annual fundraising initiative showed the compassion and generosity of the firm’s staff.
“Young Lives vs Cancer is an incredible charity which supports families through the challenges that cancer brings. We’re proud to support them,” he added.
Young Lives vs Cancer regional partnership manager Fiona McCann said: “We are so excited to have Curo on board fundraising for us. We want to make sure our partnership is successful, fun and meaningful.”
