Plans for 95 homes on former Royal High School land in the Landown area of Bath have been given outline approval.

The site, known as The Chill, is next to the former MoD Ensleigh north site, which is itself being redeveloped for housing.

Bath-based regeneration practice Nash Partnership has masterminded The Chill scheme to respond to local surroundings and sit alongside the wider residential neighbourhood.

Proposals for The Chill also include a 210-pupil primary school which is being considered separately for detailed planning permission.

Nash Partnership said it was important to ensure the proposals for The Chill integrate with the planned redevelopment of MoD Ensleigh north to create a thriving local community, while respecting the neighbouring area of outstanding natural beauty and Lansdown community.

Nash Partnership urban design director Amanda Taylor said: “The Chill site is a unique opportunity to help provide additional much-needed housing in a highly accessible location close to the city of Bath.

“The scheme will play an important role in creating Bath’s newest community and helping to meet the city’s demand for housing while staying true to its World Heritage Site setting.”

The Ensleigh north site received planning permission in 2014 for 253 homes. The scheme will enable more than eight hectares of land to become publically accessible for the first time after 70 years of military use.
