Plans for first 275 new homes on Bath’s former Foxhill MoD site – now known as Mulberry Park – have been been given the green light.
Curo, the Bath-based housing organisation, wants to build 700 energy-efficient homes on the 48-acre development – 30% of which will be for social rent or shared ownership. The site will also include a primary school and nursery, a community hub, park and public open spaces
Outline approval for the transformational scheme was granted by Bath and North East Somerset council (B&NES) in March after two years of consultation with local residents and stakeholders.
Curo housebuilding division managing director Gerraint Oakley said: “This enables us to take the first step to bring much needed private and affordable homes, community facilities and fantastic open spaces to this area of Bath.
“We would like to thank all those who have worked with us to shape these plans over the last two years. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the local community as Mulberry Park becomes a reality.”
For decades the land was inaccessible to local people as it was secured by MoD. Curo says the first phase will start to unlock a hidden corner of the city and integrate the land back into the wider community.
Valuable east-west links between Combe Down village and Foxhill and a new bus route will connect local neighbourhoods.
The first homes at Mulberry Park will be available in 2017.
