Bath-based Anthem Publishing, which was launched 12 years ago by three former Future Publishing executives, has won the industry’s top award for independent operators.
The firm collected the prestigious Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Independent Publishing Company of the Year 2014 trophy at the PPA’s recent Independent Publishing Network Conference.
The award, which was contested by 11 firms including the London Review of Books, recognises the best of British magazine publishing companies turning over less than £10m.
The PPA commended Anthem for “amazing growth, focus on new areas and channels, strong profits (and a) team that clearly understands its niche audiences, innovating across all platforms”.
Anthem managing director Jon Bickley, who co-founded the business with Simon Lewis and Paul Pettengale, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to win this award that acknowledges the great steps we’ve made in building a new food and craft business as well as effecting a digital transformation on the music side of the company.
“It’s a testament to the creativity and hard work of everyone who works so passionately on our fantastic brands.”
Anthem employs 24 staff at its London Road offices and publishes 10 consumer magazines focused in the music, food and craft sectors with titles including Food Heaven, Free-From Heaven, Classic Pop and the multi-platform Music Tech, which was the first title it launched.
