Solicitor Becky Ricards Small, a partner in the private client team at Bath-based Withy King, has been appointed chair of the B&NES area of the Quartet Community Foundation.
She takes over from Richard Hall from Bath food and drink consultancy Zenith International who has chaired the organisation, which provides a long-term source of support for charitable activity in the area, for the past six years.
Launched as Greater Bristol Foundation 26 years ago, Quartet has made grants of more than £32m and built a permanent endowment of over £19.5m. It distributes more than 1,000 grants a year to voluntary and community groups across the West of England.
Becky, was officially made chair at Quartet’s B&NES 10th anniversary celebrations held in Bath recently.
The event was also attended by Quartet Community Foundation West of England chair Stephen Parsons, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Somerset the Rt Hon Andrew Rutherford, deputy mayor cllr Ian Gilchrist and chairman of Bath and North East Somerset Council Neil Butters, along with representatives from the charities SWALLOW, which supports people with learning disabilities, Bath City Farm, Genesis Trust, Bath Cycling Club and others based in B&NES supported by Quartet.
Becky said: “It is an exciting time for the charity and I look forward to building on the excellent foundations that have been laid and working closely with their team as I strongly believe in what they are working so hard to achieve.
“Quartet’s main focus is to change people’s lives for the better across the West of England. They do this by enabling a wide variety of donors to fund projects that make a difference where people live and work. Community foundations match those who want to invest their money locally with those community groups who give of their time and energy to improve local communities.”
Becky specialises in inheritance tax planning, drafting lasting powers of attorney and wills; she is also part of Withy King’s specialist Court of Protection team and advises on deputyships.
