Pent-up demand for retail in Radstock means new scheme is nearly full before it is finished

Tenants have been signed up for four units at a new retail scheme in Radstock five months before it will be finished – leaving just one still to let.

Contractors moved in onto the former Charlton’s Timber Yard on Frome Road at the end of last month – with handover to the new occupiers planned for April 1 next year.

But ahead of work even starting Subway, Nature’s Vet, the 24-hour operator Snap Fitness and 13-branch regional DIY specialists Proper Job all committed to open stores at the 22,065 sq ft (2,025 sq m) development.

A final unit of 2,687 sq ft (250 sq m) remains available. The scheme also has 39 onsite parking spaces.

Bristol-based property agency Williams Gunter Hardwick has been marketing the development for site owners and former occupiers AJ Charlton & Sons in conjunction with Calne, Wiltshire-based development managers Box Property Group.

Williams Gunter Hardwick director Stuart Williams said: “This is a great start for the scheme – but it’s not totally surprising. Radstock is a busy town but not that well served with shops and parking.

“Radstock town centre, combined with the adjoining town of Midsomer Norton, serves a population of around 11,000, and the new development is in a prominent location fronting the busy Frome Road – adjacent to the town centre and opposite a new housing development.

“We are talking to a number of potential takers for the last unit and hope to make an announcement in the near future. Securing a compatible use is an important consideration.”
