Boutique hotel No.15 by Guesthouse Bath has been named as the ‘City Hotel of the Year’ by the readers of a respected travel publication.

Food and Travel Magazine’s Reader Awards celebrate “the finest individuals and companies in food, drink and travel”, according to the independent title.

No. 15 by Guesthouse Bath on Great Pulteney Street, pictured, which has 36 bedrooms and suites, a spa and a bar, topped a 10-strong shortlist that included The Ritz, the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane and Malmaison Edinburgh.

The awards were held at the Royal Automobile Club on London’s Pall Mall and attracted a star-studded line-up from the worlds of food, drink and travel.

No. 15 by Guesthouse Bath owner, family-run Guest Holdings – which also has venues in Brighton, York and Margate – describes the hotel as carrying “untold inherent beauty and grace, with large, panelled windows and influence from the traditional heritage of the city along with contemporary flairs”.

It was acquired by Guest Holdings in 2019 from the Bath-based Kaleidoscope Collection, the boutique hotel chain owned by Ian and Christa Taylor.

Previously the 31-bedroom Carfax Hotel and then a Salvation Army hostel, when the Taylors bought it three years earlier it had become a row of unloved Georgian terrace houses,

The couple transformed it into a multi award-winning boutique venue – including being named ‘Outstanding New Hotel’ at the Independent Hotel Show in 2017 – adding eight further bedrooms in the process.

The Food and Travel Magazine’s Reader Awards also recognise the top restaurants, chefs, hotels, destinations, tour operators, cruise companies and airlines.
