Bath’s pioneering low carbon business acceleration programme has been boosted by the appointment of Dr Jason Camp as a research associate.

Dr Camp, pictured, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, will undertake technical business development and engagement activities at the Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH) as well as research project development associated with the programme.

This will relate to the technology needs of potential entrepreneurs, aligning and developing new sustainable technologies and developing collaborative technology development opportunities with appropriate researchers.

The STBAH was officially launched in January as the UK’s first business acceleration hub dedicated to helping set up and grow a new generation of innovative small firms in the sustainable technologies sector.

Funded under the EU European Regional Development Fund and based in the University of Bath’s existing city centre innovative unit, it provides free business support to start-ups and high-growth SMEs in low carbon innovation.

STBAH aims to develop more than 130 small and medium-sized businesses over the next three years. It is already working with a number of organisations providing bespoke business support and research collaborations through academics at the University of Bath. In his new role Dr. Camp will help develop those relationships and identify appropriate research and development opportunities.

During his undergraduate studies Dr Camp conducted research as an UCEAP Undergraduate Research Fellow supervised by Prof Geoffrey T. Crisp (University of Adelaide, Australia) and completed an honours project with the support of Prof Alan L Balch (UC Davis).

Following graduate studies with Prof Robert Williams at Colorado State University he completed his PhD in 2007 under the supervision of Prof Steven M Weinreb at The Pennsylvania State University before undertaking postdoctoral research with Prof Donald Craig (2008-2009) at Imperial College London.

Following his post-doctorial work, he was appointed as a lecturer at both the University of Nottingham (2009-2013) and Queen Mary University of London (2013-2014), followed by an appointment as a senior lecturer at the University of Huddersfield (2014-2018).

The role is a fixed term with funding available for 30 months.
