Guyers House Restaurant in Corsham is celebrating reaching the final of Wiltshire Life Magazine’s Best Restaurant award.
The winner will be announced at a glamorous awards dinner at Marlborough Town Hall tomorrow.
Previous finalists have been Michelin-starred Lucknam Park and The White Horse Inn in Compton Bassett.
The restaurant, which opened three years ago in a beautiful 16th century building, serves what it describes as “stunning food in a traditional and relaxed environment”. The menu includes home-grown and locally-sourced ingredients with particular emphasis on provenance and sustainability.
Head chef Gareth John’s food philosophy is to create deliciously crafted dishes which are classic with a modern twist. With a background in international cuisine, working previously in Dubai, the US and Guernsey, his style draws from his experiences but uses classic English ingredients.
He uses local suppliers such as Terry & Sons in Bath and Lovejoys in Melksham as well as growing his own vegetables, fruit and herbs in the gorgeous grounds that surround the restaurant.
Gareth’s aim is to produce consistently excellent food and to be the best two AA rosette restaurant in Wiltshire.
Comments left in the restaurant’s guest book include “Superb food and atmosphere, charming and professional staff” and “The team here – including the excellent chef – create a friendly, relaxing environment to compliment the superb location”, confirm that Gareth and his team are achieving what he has set out to deliver.
