Energetic staff at insurance company Royal London’s Bath office are limbering up to run the city’s half marathon in aid of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG).
Royal London employees have already raised more than £45,000 for the charity, which provides a range of equipment and facilities for cancer patients at Bath’s Royal United Hospital (RUH).
Royal London’s Bath staff agreed to support the BCUSG for an initial period of two years from January 2017. This has now been extended for a further year until this December – meaning Royal London employees are now ready to put their best feet forward for the charity.
BCUSG chairman Mike Taylor said: “To date, they have raised the fantastic total of £45,678. Royal London have been extremely generous and supportive; they’ve enthusiastically embraced the partnership and done some impressive fundraising.”
The BCUSG is looking to find just under £370,000 for three new projects that will improve outcomes for local cancer patients – an out-of-hours helpline for chemotherapy outpatients, equipment to target radiotherapy more accurately and the upgrade of a solid-state gamma camera, which will provide better images for cancer diagnosis.
Fundraising activities have already included a 50-mile walk along Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, quiz nights, raffles and other events including summer and Christmas parties with staff donating £5 to attend.
Mike added: “We’re delighted that Royal London will once again be helping to raise vital funds for local cancer patients when staff take part in the Bath Half Marathon. We look forward to cheering them across the finishing line.”
Royal London Bath office SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) team leader and social responsibility lead Tamara Ingamells said: “Every member of staff has participated in raising funds for this amazing charity. Everyone has someone special affected by cancer, so it has not been difficult to rally support.
“As a company we are proud to support and give to the local community through the BCUSG, bringing hope and better outcomes, not only for patients, but their family, friends and staff.”
