A global undergraduate sponsorship scheme has been launched by Bath-based online publisher SelectScience to support young scientists facing personal disadvantages attend university.
The scheme is supporting budding young scientists such as Gerald Ruffell, who became the first of many to receive the special sponsorship.
Gerald and the other young people on the scheme are working hard to achieve scientific excellence and become the next generation of leading scientists.
SelectScience, based at Corston, introduced the scheme because CEO Arif Butt is keen to help young scientists worldwide.
He said: “It is important to give something back to the global scientific community and educate scientists on the importance and value of good communication. This helps us ensure that we are working with scientists to make the future healthier.”
Gerald has just started a three-year BSc (Hons) degree in Biology at Cardiff University. He is the first of his family to go to university and despite limitations due to illness, has high hopes to make a difference in the field of biology.
He said: “It’s been such an amazing opportunity to have been sponsored by SelectScience. The financial assistance has allowed me to focus so much more on my studies. I am honestly taken aback by their generosity.”
SelectScience is an innovative online publisher in the science industry, providing vital information to scientists around the world.
