Stronger links between Bath’s self-catering holiday accommodation owners and its restaurants and leisure destinations are being promoted by the Bath Self Catering Association (BASCA) as it is aims to raise its profile this year.
BASCA, which represents independent owners of high-quality self-catering holiday accommodation in and around the city, has attracted thousands of holiday makers to Bath for the past 15 years and its website, has the highest ranking of its kind.
But new chairman John Moon has described it as one of Bath’s best-kept secrets – and has vowed to build links with other tourist-related businesses.
Mr Moon, who owns luxury holiday accommodation The Courtyard at Batheaston, says he is eager that BASCA should achieve the recognition it deserves. “Although I have only been a member for a relatively short time, it was quickly clear to me this was a fantastic organisation, with a very loyal and enthusiastic membership, built up over many years,” he said.
“And yet, it is very little known in its home city. With the numbers of visitors BASCA is attracting to Bath, there are lots of opportunities to work with other businesses, such as restaurateurs and leisure providers and other organisations for mutual benefit.”
BASCA members meet several times a year to discuss matters of mutual interest and for social activities. At its most recent event at the Bathwick Boatman outgoing chair Mary Cooper from Weston Lane, was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a gift voucher by Mr Moon.
Mr Moon added: “Mary will be a very hard act to follow. She has been a brilliant chairman and BASCA is a great organisation which its members cherish and enjoy. I don’t intend trying to change anything, just to build on what we have.”
