Engineers from Radstock-based exhibition and graphics firm Colour Studios have built a cardboard 3D pop-up display to help launch a Shaun the Sheep online sustainability game as part of Bristol’s year as European Green Capital.

Colour Studios, which specialises in sustainable events and displays, was recruited by Bristol City Council’s design team to collaborate on the project to create a bright, fun and vibrant space using 100% recyclable materials.

The result is an eco-friendly cardboard set for the new Sustainable Shaun game in the Bristol 2015 lab at Bristol’s Harbourside. The game – part of Bristol Green Capital’s schools programme – can be played on four dedicated iPad game stations inside recycled cardboard beehive pods.

It challenges young people to build their own sustainable city and hopes to inspire children to think about green issues and create a legacy from its year as Green Capital for future generations.

The colourful pop-up designed by Colour Studios’ recyclable displays team uses characters from Shaun the Sheep – created by Bristol-based Aardman Animations – ranging from beehives, trees, wind turbines and other Mossy Bottom farm yard contraptions.

Colour Studios managing director Adam Carwardine said: “We are passionate about using recyclable materials to create sustainable displays for events so when the design team at Bristol City Council asked us to work on this project for Aardman we jumped at the chance.

“The very ethos of the game and the brief to use 100% recyclable materials was perfect for us and it’s great to see the impact Bristol 2015 is having on the city.

“We are committed to helping brands and the event industry move towards using eco-friendly materials and think about the impact they have on the environment.”

Colour Studios, founded in 1982, designs and produces a range of visual marketing, exhibiting and wide format display services to help firms achieve their marketing, promotional and communication goals. Its clients include Clarks, Centrica, the University of Bath, Bath Spa University, Nationwide Building Society, EDF and media group Future.
