Sorbus International, the Frome-based firm supplying specialist and hi-tech equipment to the arboriculture, forestry and environmental care industries, has expanded into larger premises as the result of a new finance package with Barclays.
The new 7,000 sq ft base includes bespoke offices, showroom and warehouse with room for further expansion. The new showroom also houses a climbing wall (pictured) and pole for customers to test new equipment before buying.
Sorbus has grown strongly since it was founded in 2007 by husband-and-wife team Phil and Nicky Wade, including double-digit increases in turnover every year. Its eight-strong workforce is also expected to expand.
The firm supplies and services hi-tech equipment and safety clothing to a blue-chip customer base that includes councils and utility companies for use in areas such as ground maintenance, landscaping and forestry.
Products stocked over two floors in its new showroom and online include climbing, lowering and rigging, clothing, pruning and safety equipment.
The firm also has an established trade show and outreach programme and works closely with agricultural colleges across the UK to ensure the latest hi-tech products are incorporated into their lessons.
Details of the funding have not been disclosed although Barclays described it as “a significant six-figure finance package”.
Sorbus managing director Phil Wade said: “The funding will allow us to continue to widen our product offering and expand into new markets by enabling us to showcase our products and depth of experience we have in the sector and in doing so exceeding our customers’ expectations.
“Barclays has been our local trusted banking partner and has a deep understanding of our operating model and we look forward to working with them as we embark on the next stage of our journey.”
Barclays relationship manager for Frome, Brian O’Connor, added: “Sorbus has carved a niche for itself in a competitive market and is enjoying strong growth. We are fully committed to supporting the business as its looks to continue to build on its success and expand its order book.”
