Bath area residents concerned about the cost of social care and other issues affecting older people can get free advice at a public event sponsored by local law firm Stone King.

The Later Life Show on September 26 will showcase the wide range of specialist services available to older people in the area and provide expert legal, financial and care advice to residents.

The free event at St Michaels Without, Broad Street, between 11am and 3pm, takes place amid growing concern about Government plans to overhaul the social care system.

Guest speaker will be Professor Roy Jones, director of the Bath-based Research Institute for the Care of Older People (RICE), which is co-sponsoring the event. Other local charities and organisations on hand to provide specialist advice include Age UK, Bath Institute of Medical Engineering, Dorothy House and Ashcourt Rowan Financial Planning.

Stone King’s trusts and estates team head Alison Allen said: “The Government’s refusal to cap the cost of elderly care has created uncertainty for many older residents and their families. This makes it impossible to plan ahead to pay for our care.

“The Bath Later Life Show is designed to make it easier for people to access all the information they need in one place.”
