A team from Bath-based law firm Stone King has raised more than £6,000 for charity by cycling from its headquarters in the city to London.
The nine riders, pictured, covered the 155 miles from the firm’s office on Upper Borough Walls to its London office in the Barbican over two days to raise the money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
So far the team have brought in £6,255, thanks to a £1,500 donation from Stone King’s charitable arm, the Stone King Foundation.
There was a poignant reason for the fundraiser – the ride was the brainchild of Stone King chair Alison Allen, who had treatment for cancer last year.
She said: “We know that this disease affects one in two of us and I am extremely fortunate to benefit from the huge amount of research that has gone before me.
“Thankfully, for many people today, cancer is not a death sentence because of the life-saving research funded by charities like CRUK and this ride is a positive demonstration of that.
“However, I am also acutely aware that I am one of the lucky ones and there are so many people who are not as fortunate; there will be many others within the family of Stone King and beyond who have been affected by cancer.”
The team was made up of Alison Allen, Philip Askew, Andrew Banks, Ollie Daw, Sophie Pughe, Frances Reynolds, Jamie Telling, Jessica Ventham and Peter Woodhouse.
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. It supports research into all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.
