Boutique hotel The Bird, Bath, has launched its latest pop-up for the summer season, The Nook Garden, following the success of last year’s beach bar.
Open throughout the summer, the south-facing garden is full of flamboyant touches in keeping with the Pulteney Road hotel’s eclectic character.
Features include creative planting to life-size sculptures and bright Balinese parasols as well as plenty of informal seating from which to enjoy some of the city’s best views over The Rec and Bath Abbey beyond.
The Bird, Bath – formerly the County Hotel – was acquired by city-based hotel group the Kaleidoscope Collection last year. The boutique hotel firm’s owners Ian and Christa Taylor immediately set about transforming it, including opening of the city’s first beach bar, increasing the number of bedrooms from 27 to 31 and adding vibrant new meeting spaces and public areas.
Ian Taylor said: “We wanted to create an exciting alfresco venue for locals and visitors alike this summer.
“After the success of the beach last year, we wanted to put a new spin on the space for 2019, and the idea of a visually enticing garden to appeal to groups of friends, families, private parties and hotel residents alike, immediately came to mind as a fun and accessible way to make the most of our south-facing terrace with its incredible views.”
He said visitors would find a playful feel inside and out The Nook, with a focal point sculptural tree lanterns that light up as darkness falls, and rugs and heaters outside for when the temperature drops.
Food is served on Fridays from 5pm-9pm and from midday-9pm on Saturdays and includes sourdough pizzas, summer salads, sweet such as Eton Mess and Marshfield ice creams and snacks ranging from fried calamari with lemon and garlic aioli, to Scotch eggs with piccalilli.
The Nook garden, which will be is open until September 29, is also available for private hire get-togethers, celebrations or work barbecues.
