Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Catherine Brabner-Evans, external affairs officer for The Woodland Trust, answers our 10 questions.
What was the LAST:
Film you watched? It’s a bit too sunny in the evenings to be indoors watching movies. Summer’s evenings are more for sitting under a tree in the garden with a glass of wine and a book…..
Book you read? …aha talking of books….I’m currently totally hooked into Joanne Harris’ Different Class. She describes her characters so vividly it like you know them personally and her plot twists are epic. I only read for pleasure so if a book bores me I put it down and choose another. Hence most of the intellectual tomes in my house belong to my husband and not to me.
Music you bought/downloaded? The new Gaz Coombes album is awesome (formerly of Supergrass), but I’m not a big muso. I’ll enjoy a few festivals this summer.
Concert or play you went to? My husband still reminds me he got very drunk backstage with Ozzy Osborne following a Black Sabbath concert and I’m never going to top that. The last play I saw was my son’s Christmas primary school play where my six-year-old son had the pivotal role of Laundry Elf Number 3 and the immortal line “quick, we’ll have to make Santa a new suit”.
Sporting event you attended? There are two sports in my world; tennis (playing more than watching), and Welsh rugby (watching rather than playing). The Six Nations filled my house with every Welshman in Bristol crowded round a screen and we’ve just bought tickets for Wales vs Scotland in the autumn internationals. Can I take a week off just for Wimbledon do you think?
Holiday you went on? Sneaky trip to the Algarve at Easter to seek a little warmth. Was is just me or was it a really long grey winter?
Restaurant you ate in? A rather rowdy evening with friends and cocktails in the Thali Café. I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years. There are lots of great vegan menus popping up in Bristol but I love cheese and chocolate – any suggestions?
Thing that annoyed you? Laziness is the trait I find most irritating – particularly people who park on pavements or in disabled bays because they are too lazy to walk a bit.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? My son makes me laugh every day. Being a working mum is a tough brief, so you have to find the time and energy to revel in the laughter.
Piece of good advice you were given? (See above) but also – I love walking in mountains so ‘don’t walk and look at the view at the same time’.
As the Woodland Trust’s regional external affairs officer for the South West, Catherine works with local authorities to get the best policies and strategies in place to protect, restore and plant woods and trees across the region. Catherine is currently working with Bristol City Council, the Forest of Avon Trust and the Bristol Tree Forum on a new campaign, Talking Trees Bristol. The four partner organisations are calling on Bristol residents and businesses to pledge their support for an ambitious target to double the city’s canopy cover by 2050.
