Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on our weekly e-bulletin. This week Duncan McKerracher, head of tech at Aer Studios, answers our 10 questions.
What was the LAST:
Film you watched? My family is working their way through Star Wars and we recently watched Return of the Jedi. The children were captivated from the start and I couldn’t stop smiling. It remains one of the best movies of all time.
Book you read? Quantum Computing by Brian Clegg. As a creative technologist at heart, I have always been fascinated by science and how it might impact the technology we use at work and home. Quantum computing has the potential to be huge and this book brings the fundamentals to life without the need for the odd PhD or two.
Music you bought or downloaded? Aer Studios recently completed the Three Peaks challenge for our charity The Grand Appeal. For a bit of energy during my training, in and around the hills of Bath, I downloaded Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite for Destruction.
Concert or play you went to? Aladdin at Bath’s Theatre Royal over Christmas. It’s a family tradition and who doesn’t love a bit of panto. Bath over the Christmas period is magical and the whole experience going to the theatre and coming out into the cold is highly recommended.
Sporting event you attended? I’ve been a Bath Rugby season ticket holder for a long time so I’m at all the games come rain or shine. The experience at The Rec can’t be beaten regardless of whether we win or lose….I remain optimistic about our chances for next season.
Holiday you went on? It was a family trip to St Ives, our favourite spot to hit the beach in the UK. It mostly rained but that meant the beaches were quiet.
Restaurant you ate in? Not quite a restaurant, but I found myself doing work calls recently over a morning coffee in Farrington’s Farm Shop & Café. The latte was wonderful and the cow pattern wallpaper went down a treat on my calls.
Thing that annoyed you? I cycle to work a lot. Recently my commute through the lanes to our office in leafy Box was a joy. On arrival I realised I had forgotten my laptop. The ride home and back again were timed perfectly with a downpour. It wasn’t the ideal start to the day!
Thing that made you laugh out loud? Will Ferrell in Barbie. Much to the entertainment of my children.
Piece of good advice you were given? My Dad always told me to surround myself with good people no matter what I do. I am incredibly lucky to be part of the Aer Studios team and am constantly blown away by the amazing range of work we deliver combining creativity and technology for our clients.
