Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

In Christmas week Ebenezer Scrooge, miser and partner in Scrooge & Marley money lenders, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Bah, humbug. The cinema’s too expensive so I wait until I can watch them on my old black-and-white TV. But every Christmas I watch The Muppet Christmas Carol. Michael Caine was good as me!

Book you read? I read my old ledgers and accounts books to see who owes me money. Very satisfying.

Music you bought/downloaded? I definitely don’t buy overpriced CDs but what’s ‘downloading’? Is that getting music for free? I like the sound of that.

Concert or play you went to? Fortunately there are lots of free concerts in Bath I can go to. I heard they’d made a musical about me but I wouldn’t pay to see it so I’ve no idea if it’s any good.

Sporting event you attended? Bah, humbug again. Who wants to spend their money to watch overpaid sports professionals. The BBC still has some sports coverage you can watch for free on TV doesn’t it? Darts and bowls I think but no longer F1.

Holiday you went on? Holiday? What the Dickens! Too expensive. I stay home and count my money. And I don’t pay my staff to take holidays – thanks to zero-hour contracts.

Restaurant you ate in? I don’t go to restaurants any more – have you seen the prices? – but these all-you-can-eat buffets that you see advertised around Bath look good.

Thing that annoyed you? Christmas. A poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every 25th of December.  That scoundrel Bob Cratchit even asked for a half day off on full pay. Bah!

Thing that made you laugh out loud? The Ghost of Christmas Past showed me I did laugh once. But that was years ago.

Piece of good advice you were given? Well, having had the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come visit me all in one night I must say I’ve been given some pretty good advice. It’s never too late to change. So don’t take my name in vain and be a Scrooge this Christmas.

Ebenezer Scrooge is a partner in Scrooge & Marley money lenders. Once a cold-hearted miser, he is now a philanthropist and social activist, spreading good cheer far and wide. He has also recently increased his employees’ salaries, bought lavish Christmas presents for their families and secured health care for their children, saving at least one from an untimely death.
