Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.
This week Esther McMorris, founder of Bath-based change management consultancy Nine Feet Tall, answers our 10 questions.
What was the LAST:
I started watching the Bourne Identity the other night and although I had seen it before, it still remains a really enjoyable watch.
Book you read?
Out of Office by Chris Ward. It encourages you to swap the traditional work setting of the office for a coffee shop to increase work productivity and creativity. It resonates with me as it matches our own ethos of being free to work wherever you are most productive.
Music you bought?
Pharrell Williams – Happy. It puts everyone in a good mood and is especially helpful when I’m heading off to work early or when dropping the kids at school.
Concert you went to?
I went to Boardmasters festival in Newquay back in July and especially enjoyed the Big Deal and Yuck. It was a shame the Sunday was cancelled due to high winds, but we enjoyed the surf competition at Fistral beach instead.
Sporting event you attended?
I watched the Bath v Leicester rugby match at the Rec. It was the first time I didn’t support the team in orange (I’m Dutch) and what a cracker! Do I need to remind any depressed Leicester fans of the score?
Holiday you went on?
My family and I went to Portugal and are already planning to go back. It has a lovely climate, beautiful coast line, fantastic food and the company was excellent!
Restaurant you ate in?
The Kings Arms in Georgeham for Sunday lunch. It’s a friendly village pub near Croyde, North Devon. The food was superb and is highly recommended if you are in the neighbourhood.
Thing that annoyed you?
Dialling in to a conference call from a service station car park off the M4, having to listen to depressing classical music for 20 minutes while on hold, only to find out that the chairperson cancelled the meeting while I was sitting on the call
Thing that made you laugh out loud?
We recently moved house and I came across a box of old photos – looking back at pictures from my childhood was a real scream!
Piece of good advice you were given?
Never put things off – they only get worse. Tackle difficult issues quickly and move on. It’s better that way and it is advice I apply to all areas of business
