Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Lindsay Holdoway, managing director of commercial property group HPH, answers our 10 questions
Film you watched? Bridge of Spies – the cold war drama with Tom Hanks. I have always loved cold war dramas and I particularly enjoy the Le Carré novels that have been adapted for the big screen.
Book you read? I am reading Sebastian Faulks’ latest novel Where My Heart Used to Beat, a birthday present from my wife, Anne.
Music Downloaded: Phase by singer-song writer Jack Garrett – a great recommendation from my son Will.
Concert or play you went to: The fantastic West of England Youth Orchestra performing Laura Rossi’s Battle of the Somme with cellist Matthew Sharp at The Wiltshire Music Centre (and just back from Coldplay at Wembley – stunning!)
Sporting event you went on: Bath Buccs Boys Under 14 Hockey team competing in the National Finals at the Olympic Park, to support my youngest son John – they came fourth and it was a fantastic day! I must mention Bath Rugby, we have held season tickets for over 25 years – optimistic for next season, as ever.
Holiday you went on: I piggy-backed on my daughter Katie’s back-packing gap year. We toured Malaysia for 10 days together, learnt how to use a blowpipe in a rainforest – 10 days only allowed – so more of a gap week really!
Restaurant you ate in: I need to cheat here and mention three places: Lunch at the Scallop Shell in Bath, which has recently been awarded best independent fish and chip shop of the year, early drinks in The Dark Horse on Kingsmead Square, then to The Wheelwright Arms, Monkton Combe. I am proud to say HPH are Landlords to all these successful businesses.
Thing that annoyed you: High-speed connectivity and superfast broadband are crucial in enabling Bath businesses to continue to thrive. Whether working from home or a large office building it is essential Bath has the right infrastructure. Unfortunately getting our buildings in Bath connected remains a challenge.
Thing that made you laugh out loud: This may be a little controversial for some people, but it was Michael McIntyre.
Piece of good advice: From my father Tom, “The best property decisions are always about timing”. Never more relevant than now.
