Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Maeve England, a partner at Bath law firm Mogers Drewett and recently appointed chair of the Bath Business Improvement District (BID) board, answers our 10 questions.
Film you watched? I recently re-watched The Untouchables, one of my favourite films, which tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a wealthy businessman who has suffered an accident and is left paralysed from the neck down, and his carer, a young man just released from prison. Francois Cluzet, who plays the quadriplegic main character, gives a masterclass in acting with his eyes.
Book you read? Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey – a story told in the first person of a woman suffering from dementia. It sounds as though it would be harrowing but it is touching and funny. The structure is clever with a mystery from the past woven through.
Music you bought or downloaded? Amar Pelos Dois by Salvador Sobral. A little beacon of light in an ocean of mediocrity.
Concert or play you went to? Pleasure and Pain by Mark Thomson at the Citizens’ Theatre in Glasgow. The play follows Guy de Maupassant through his later life and madness, interspersed with some of his brilliantly observed human stories.
Sporting event you attended? Team Bath v Wasps netball at the Sports Village at Bath University. Eboni Beckford-Chambers, who is a trainee solicitor in the disputes department at Mogers Drewett, is the captain and so we are all fans.
Holiday you went on? I went to Venice in early spring for a long weekend.
Restaurant you ate in? The new Framptons Café Bar on Grand Parade, where I had a very high calorie breakfast with the disputes team from Mogers Drewett. Absolutely stunning refit and it is great to see a vibrant new business in Bath.
Thing that annoyed you? Waiting nine hours for a delayed flight at Bristol Airport having got up at 3.30am and finally flying out at 3.15 in the afternoon.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? Have I got News For You, a regular watch in our household.
Piece of good advice you were given? If a million people say a foolish thing, it’s still a foolish thing.
