Each week Bath Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week, Nigel Smith, director of Bath craft workshop and party business The Makery, answers our 10 questions

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Ant-Man. It was a film about a man who can shrink to the size of an ant. I often wish I had this super human ability when going through management accounts with our business advisor. When ‘ant-sized’ I’d escape to my desk, away from the numbers and back to the creative things that I love doing at The Makery.

Book you read? The Church of Fear by John Sweeney. It’s a book about exposing the truth behind the massive cult of Scientology. I read it because I’m an atheist who loves truth and reason but hates people being conned and brain washed by a load of crooks. I hope they don’t read this and come and look for me though as they’re a scary bunch. If you’re reading this Scientologists, I live in a council flat in Newcastle and my name is, errr, John.

Music you bought or downloaded? Foals, What Went Down. I love this album as I was born to rock. A foal is also the name of a horse that is one year old or younger.

Concert or play you went to? I went to a Tom Odell gig at Babington House. He played that song from the John Lewis penguin ad and everyone cried. He didn’t even write it though, it was John Lennon apparently. I enjoyed calling him T-Dell for the entire evening much to the delight of the people I was with.

Sporting event you attended? I went to watch a fantastic Bath Rugby game. I was stood in the terraces and the atmosphere was so memorable. I don’t remember who they were playing though as they now sell two pint glasses of beer and I had a bit too much to drink and then didn’t print out the boarding passes for the holiday we were going on the next day. I was in serious trouble with the Mrs.

Holiday you went on? Eurocamp in the South of France with the family. Kids love it and Daddy loves the wine selection in the French supermarkets, oh and the bread, and cheese, oui oui.

Restaurant you ate in? Burger & Lobster, Bath. I ate…. a burger and a lobster. Been there twice, paid for the meal 0 times. WIN! Apparently you don’t kill a lobster before you boil it but before cooking the burgers they do kill the cow.

Thing that annoyed you? My body is kept like a Zen temple of calm. Things that would once annoy me are banished from my temple using meditation techniques passed down from Buddhist monks that I met on a bus in Thailand. This could be true, or there could just be too many things to mention in this tiny column.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Ant Man, that was funny. My three-year-old daughter is also a hoot. Paying my VAT bill, HA HA! But that’s more of a hysterical, manic laugh. Does that count?

Piece of good advice you were given? Don’t kid yourself that you’re going to live again after you’re dead; you’re not. Make the most of the one life you’ve got. Live it to the full.

After living and working in the media industry for 10 years, Nigel moved to Bath with his wife and together they set up The Makery.
