Regional commercial law firm Thrings, which has an office in Bath, has helped world-renowned tailor Kathryn Sargent open her first store on London’s famous Savile Row.
The firm provided commercial property advice to Kathryn, pictured, – Britain’s first female head cutter – on the 854 sq ft shop which opened last week as a spring and summer seasonal residency.
The move makes Kathryn the first female master tailor to launch a new store on the Mayfair street synonymous for men’s tailoring in its 350-year history.
Kathryn previously trained and worked at the Savile Road premises of celebrated men’s tailors Gieves and Hawkes for 15 years, in the process becoming the first female head cutter in the history of Savile Row in 2009.
Legal advice for the new shop was provided by Thrings commercial property partner Alison Jarvis, pictured below, who enabled Kathryn to meet a demanding timetable to sign up for – and secure – the unit.
Kathryn Sargent formed her eponymously named business in 2012, quickly gaining an outstanding reputation for designing, cutting and making high-quality, handcrafted, British-infused tailored suits, contemporary pieces and uniforms for men and women.
She said: “I am delighted to be opening a shop on Savile Row. As a tailor it has been a long held ambition of mine, and throughout my career, I have upheld the excellent values of Savile Row. I am thrilled to be making history, although for me being a woman is incidental, I am a tailor first and foremost.
“Alison Jarvis and the team at Thrings were extremely efficient and helpful with providing all the legal advice and assistance required, and went over and above to ensure the deadlines were met.”
Alison Jarvis added: “Savile Row is a shopping destination of international renown, with a history steeped in providing traditional, bespoke and high-quality tailored clothing. The street is already home to many notable tailors and Kathryn’s arrival will further enhance its reputation for fashion retail excellence.
“Thrings is very pleased to have helped Kathryn reinforce her own status as a world-leading tailor in such a prestigious location.”
Thrings also has offices in Swindon, Bristol, Reading and London.
