West of England chartered accountancy firm Monahans has been named as the third best in the country for the service it provides to its charity clients.

The firm, which has six offices across the region including Bath, was also placed at number 20 in the annual league table of accountants operating in the UK charity sector ranked by audit fee income.

The table forms part of an annual charity audits survey produced by Charity Finance magazine which gauges the health of the sector.

The rankings are based on the answers to questionnaires completed anonymously by more than 1,000 UK charities, along with audit data from the UK’s largest 350 charities.

It allows charities to rate their professional advisers against a range of criteria, including sector expertise, overall service levels and value for money.

As well as ranking firms by their fee income, Charity Finance speaks directly to individual accountancy firms’ clients to gauge their level of satisfaction with the service they receive.

Some 35 of Monahan’s charity clients responded to the survey, with all but one placing the firm in the highest possible category – securing the firm third position for best client service out of all UK accountancy practices operating in the sector.

In the fee income table, Monahans rose 11 places from 31st last year to 20th.

Monahans has specialised in providing accountancy and audit services to charities for more than 15 year and partners Linda Boss, who is based in Bath, and Swindon-based Steve Fraser, were among the first cohort in the UK to be awarded the Diploma in Charity Accounting.

Linda Boss, pictured, said: “To be ranked alongside some of the biggest accountancy firms in the UK in an independent survey is a wonderful achievement and I’m proud of the Monahans charity team for their continued dedication and professional approach.”

She said the introduction this year of new accounting rules for charities – known as Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) – meant it was now more important than ever that charities received the right advice to plan for additional disclosure requirements that would result from the changes.

“We are looking forward to implementing the new SORP and to working with our clients to help them in addressing the required changes,” she added.

The Charity Finance audit survey shows UK charities have a combined annual income of £25.9bn.

Monahans has 15 partners and more than 120 staff across its offices in Swindon, Bath, Chippenham, Frome, Glastonbury and Trowbridge.
