Town centre development site will host Christmas market for second year running

A popular Christmas market is returning to its home on a historic town centre site ahead of its redevelopment into a much-needed mixed-use property scheme.

Trowbridge Christmas Market will take place from Friday November 19 to Sunday 21 November on the town’s Innox Mills site.

Organised by the site’s owners in partnership with The Anonymous Travelling Market, the market follows the success of last year’s event, which drew 15,000 visitors.

Once again, it will be set in the historic buildings on the site 10-acre brownfield site, which was once home to cloth mills and the towns iconic Bowyer’s pork pie factory.

The stalls will offer a wide selection of products including artisan gifts, local ales and spirits, plus festive decorations. There will also be mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and children’s entertainment, including face painting.

The site’s development company, also called Innox Mills, has submitted plans to Wiltshire Council for a mix of up to 300 high-quality houses and apartments, space for artisan businesses and co-working hubs, and a focus on independent food and drink businesses, including a roof-top bar.

The site, next to Trowbridge railway station and which has laid derelict for 12 years, will also feature new children’s outdoor play areas, new links to the town centre, plus green, open leisure spaces and improvements to its riverside. It will also host regular events throughout the year.

Innox Mills director Jonathan Dean said: “Following the success of our first Christmas Market at Innox Mills last year, we’re excited to be bringing it back for 2021.

“With other Christmas markets in the area cancelled this year, we hope this gives people a chance to enjoy a festive day out, while shopping for gifts and decorations from local businesses.”

He said food, drink and leisure would play a big role at the Innox Mills development when it is completed.

“Our vision is to create a thriving new hub at Innox Mills and the Trowbridge Christmas Market offers a taste of what’s to come,” he added.

“It’s also a chance for the public to see some of our historic buildings lit up for the festivities, which add to the rustic feel of the event.”

Innox Mills acquired the site in 2016 and has been consulting with stakeholders and the general public over the past five years, exploring a wide range of land uses and opportunities, carrying out site investigation works and responding to the changing retail and economic situations.

Trowbridge Christmas Market will run from the following times:
  • Friday 19: 9am – 6pm
  • Saturday 20: November: 9am – 6pm
  • Sunday 21: November: 9am – 4pm
