Tribe puts homeless young people in the frame to raise awareness of their plight

Staff from marketing agency Tribe Communications have produced, directed and starred in a film to raise awareness of the plight of vulnerable and homeless young people.

The film was made ahead of the first Byte Night sponsored sleep-out in Bristol earlier this month. Five staff from Holt-based Tribe took part in the event, which raised more than £48,000 for Action for Children, the charity that supports and speaks out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people.

The film is now being used by Action for Children to support its National Children’s Hour on October 26.

Byte Night was launched in 1998 when 30 people from the IT industry slept out and raised £35,000 for Action for Children. Since then, the event has grown to involve more than 1,000 people each year in eight locations, making it the UK’s largest charity sleep-out.

Tribe managing director Gareth Jones said: “From the moment I heard about Byte Night, I knew we were going to take part. The team at Tribe is like one big family, lots of us have children of our own, and I knew everyone would support this initiative.”

Tribe’s digital developer Chris Waterfield added: “Film is a brilliant medium for delivering a powerful message, in a way that’s very emotive. We make so many films for our clients, and always get brilliant feedback from them, so it seemed the obvious way to raise funds.

“Our film didn’t just to raise money for Action for Children, it also raised awareness of homelessness, particularly around young people. It might not be pleasant sleeping outdoors in October but that’s nothing compared to the people who do not have any choice and have to do that night after night.”

Action for Children works directly with more than 250,000 children, young people, parents and carers each year and run more than 650 services across the UK.
