A Bath retail and leisure development is now fully let after three new occupiers signed deals for commercial units.
Spring Wharf, formerly known as Roseberry Place, pictured, includes 17,340 sq ft of retail and leisure space and 171 homes for private rent.
On a prominent site at the junction of Lower Bristol Road and Windsor Bridge Road – and part of Bath’s Riverside Enterprise Zone – it has also created a new access to the River Avon with a riverside walkway and cycle path.
Construction has now ended on the first phase at the scheme – which is being developed by Bristol-based Deeley Freed Estates and Legal & General. It includes the residential apartments and retail units. A second phase is due to start shortly.
The new occupiers on the first phase are Pure Gym, the chain of no-frills health clubs, Scoop Wholefoods, the UK’s largest zero-waste health food retailer, and American cycling icon Trek.
Pure Gym has agreed a 15-year lease for ground floor and mezzanine level space. It will be the firm’s first centre in Bath, continuing its expansion into the South West following openings in Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth.
Scoop Wholefoods is expanding into Bath following the opening of its first store in Bristol. It has agreed 10-year lease on the ground floor, while icon Trek has agreed a 10 year-lease for the remaining ground floor space.
Pure Gym property director Duncan Costin said: “Bath has been a long-time target and finally we can bring our exciting gym offer to the people of Bath. We’re hopeful that this could be the first of several sites in the area.”
Scoop Wholefoods managing director Stephie Mizzi added that she hoped the store would become Bath’s sustainable alternative to a supermarket.
“We are delighted to open our second zero-waste store in our home city of Bath, following the success of our first outlet in Bristol,” she said.
“This new outlet will be opening at Spring Wharf in March. Scoop Wholefoods has the UK’s largest range of natural and organic wholefoods, with more than 350 bulk foods, and hundreds more in reusable or home compostable packaging, all sourced from ethical and responsible suppliers, many of which are local to the South West.”
Deeley Freed director Andrew Maltby added: “At a time of uncertainty for many retail and leisure operators we are pleased to see this development has attracted three successful businesses.
“This area of Bath is an increasingly attractive residential location and we have always envisaged Spring Wharf to be a vibrant local hub offering a healthy mix of new homes and retail/leisure space. We are pleased to see Phase 1 come to fruition and look forward to Phase 2 being equally successful.”
