Bath Rugby have teamed up with city-based full-fibre broadband provider Truespeed to upgrade connectivity at The Rec, giving fans a much better online experience on match days.
Under the multi-year strategic partnership, Truespeed has become the club’s official broadband and public wi-fi provider and will now offer ultrafast wi-fi all around the iconic stadium as well as supporting Bath rugby’s community outreach programmes.
As part of the agreement, Truespeed has installed an additional wireless network in the Fan Village, the zone behind the East Stand where fans enjoy pre-match entertainment including live music, food stalls, face painting and drinks.
Bath Rugby chief executive Tarquin McDonald, pictured, right, with Truespeed chief executive James Lowther, described the partnership as an investment and improvement in the stadium infrastructure to “enhance the experience of Bath Rugby fans and visitors at The Rec”.
He added: “This upgrade will introduce wi-fi to the Fan Village and ensure that Bath Rugby fans, visitors and vendors benefit from the improved connectivity in the area.
“It is exciting to collaborate with another Bath-based organisation with high ambitions to improve and inspire the communities we operate in.”
Truespeed was launched in Bath in 2014 as a community interest company, and has since connected nearly 100,000 properties, including more than 150 schools and community hubs.
Last year it ranked 53rd in the prestigious ORESA Growth Index, which lists the top 100 fastest growing businesses in the UK, having achieved a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 70.3%.
Truespeed chief executive James Lowther said: “As a company with strong local roots, Truespeed are proud to be upgrading the broadband infrastructure of the South West.
“This partnership with the much-loved Bath Rugby team extends the power of our ultrafast full fibre network to dramatically improve the Fan Village experience at The Rec.”
Truespeed will also collaborate with Bath Rugby on community outreach programmes across the South West.
Truespeed’s own Community Connections programme already extends to more than 150 schools and community institutions. Its partnership with Bath Rugby aims to extend the scope and impact of the community outreach together.
