Innovative waste management firm Advetec has joined 10 other fast-growing UK businesses on an international trade mission to Abu Dhabi and Dubai to showcase their products and services.

Radstock-based Advetec’s pioneering equipment transforms waste into soil or fuel for energy production and is already used across Europe, the US, India, Africa, South America and parts of the Middle East.

The trade mission, organised in partnership by Santander UK, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), will help break down potential barriers, stimulate exports and encourage international growth for the chosen UK firms.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the United Arab Emirates (UAE) two largest emirates and primary drivers of the UAE’s growth. Dubai’s economy grew by close to 5% last year and the economy of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, expanded by 5.2%, reaching $193bn in 2013, 48% of the UAE’s overall GDP.

The UAE has strong economic and trade connections to the UK, being its 6th largest trading partner in terms of goods imports.

Head of breakthrough at Santander John Williams said: “Abu Dhabi and Dubai have become enticing markets for UK fast-growth businesses. Like any new international market, there are many cultural and business challenges that the new entrants will face which can be a daunting prospect.

“Delegates on the UK trade mission will benefit greatly from meeting a range of businesses and experts to share their experiences and gain valuable guidance on how to access the UAE market. This will be good for the delegates, good for business in the UAE and good for the continued growth of the UK economy.”

The businesses will spend six days networking with, and learning from, a selection of experienced global business leaders and exporters. Delegates will also receive assistance through the Overseas Market Information Service (OMIS) from the UKTI teams at the British Embassy offices in Abu Dhabi.

The UK firms will find out how Abu Dhabi and Dubai work in terms of their competitive landscape and distribution networks, as well as learning about specific regulations through sessions with relevant business groups.

All the business owners will have a schedule of one-on-one meetings with organisations tailored to their own sector and industry.

Advetec manufactures unique technology that digests organic waste rapidly, reducing operating costs and providing opportunities for residual waste to be used for energy production.

Its technologies utilise bacteria and with the aid of bio-stimulation, rapidly bio-degrade organic waste.
