Bath-based Wessex Water has been named as the top performing water and sewerage company in a survey of customer ratings.
The customer measure of experience (C-MeX) was introduced by industry watchdog Ofwat last year to assess how both customers and the wider public rate each company.
Wessex Water’s C-MeX score came from two independent Ofwat surveys – one from customers who had been in contact and the other from a wider group who hadn’t.
In the resulting league table of 17 companies, water-only company Portsmouth Water finished top, ahead of Wessex in second and Northumbrian Water third, both of which supply water and wastewater services.
Wessex Water chief executive Colin Skellett said: “This excellent result has been achieved by the hard work of colleagues who regularly go above and beyond to give the best customer experience and the proactive way we are engaging with communities across our region.
“We’re particularly proud that this top performance has been maintained throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our people all see themselves as ambassadors for Wessex Water, providing an outstanding experience whether customers have contacted us or not.”
Wessex Water, which has its headquarters at Claverton Down and is owned by YTL Power International, part of the Malaysian conglomerate YTL, serves 2.8m customers across the South West including Bath, Bristol and most of Wiltshire. It treats 480m litres of wastewater every day.
